Our buying recommendation

Which should you buy?

Start with the RX 9070 when you want a 16GB gaming card and its current price is competitive. Choose the RTX 5070 when Nvidia features in the games or applications you use are worth the tradeoff in memory capacity.

Choose GeForce RTX 5070 if…

DLSS support or Nvidia-specific application requirements are important to you. Check native performance first and be comfortable with the 12GB memory capacity.

Choose Radeon RX 9070 if…

You prioritize conventional gaming performance and 16GB of memory. Compare the more powerful RX 9070 XT too if the price difference is small.

The differences that matter

Memory is a meaningful difference

This comparison is the 12GB RTX 5070 against the 16GB RX 9070, not either faster suffix variant. Extra memory is useful headroom for demanding settings, but it does not make every game faster. TechSpot’s RTX 5070 review also finds a limited native-performance upgrade from the RTX 4070 Super, which weakens the case for replacing that card.

Match the rendering settings to your games

The RX 9070 has a strong conventional-rendering case, while demanding ray tracing can change the ordering. Check the titles you actually play and whether the results use native rendering, upscaling or frame generation. Generated frames and native frames should not be treated as interchangeable evidence of responsiveness.

The exact board and selling price matter

A review’s launch price is historical context. Retail boards vary in cooler size, noise and pricing, so compare the listing title with your case and power supply requirements. If the non-XT RX 9070 approaches the XT’s price, reconsider the step up. For creative software, verify application support rather than extrapolating from gaming results.

More video memory capacity

Radeon RX 9070: 16 GB. A larger memory pool may fit a larger workload; it does not establish higher frame rates.

Tradeoff to weigh

12GB memory ceiling; Small native gain over 4070 Super

What reviewers found

Tom’s Hardware · Limited VRAM Capacity

The card features only 12GB of video memory, which is a potential constraint.

Tom’s Hardware ↗

What TechSpot found

Native gaming gains over the 4070 Super are small, and the unchanged 12GB capacity weakens the generational upgrade case.
