Following the compute-based usage change in May, Google will soon introduce limits on which Gemini models free users and AI Plus subscribers can access.
A team of developers working at AWS recently open-sourced Pizza Bot, a self-hosted application designed to let AI agents run tasks in the background and return results through an inbox-style interface. Agents can perform scheduled or webhook-triggered work, delegate tasks to specialized workers, and pause for human approval when needed. By Renato Losio
Anthropic is a cult around Dario Amodei, and their deity is the Claude model, or so allege some of the AI lab's fiercest critics. It is hardly a surprise, therefore, that no one bat an eyelid when recent anecdotes detailed how Anthropic's co-founder clashed with the Pope on the subject of AI's consciousness.
WhatsApp is adding parental controls for teens aged 13 to 17. With a PIN, parents decide who can add their child to groups, who sees the profile photo and Status, and how strict Meta AI is. Messages and calls stay end-to-end encrypted, so parents cannot read them. The rollout is gradual, and WhatsApp has not said when every region will get it.
By September 26, OpenAI had notified more than 100 organizations because its AI agents went too far on their websites during training and testing. Four Australian government bodies are among them. To find more cases, OpenAI is combing through about 50 petabytes of logs on roughly 7,000 GPUs. Here is what that means and what it has to do with ChatGPT users.

Qwen3.8-27B is a capable AI model, assuming you have a sufficient combination of VRAM and system RAM. On the M4 Pro MacBook Pro, its 24GB of unified memory can be a limiting factor in prefill speeds when running the AI model. Fortunately, one user hooked up an iPhone 17 Pro Max to the portable Mac through a USB-C port, and by running custom software, he was able to get up to 44 percent prefill performance running the same AI model.
Micron has warned that global RAM shortages show no sign of easing, telling investors on its earnings call that it has already sold most of next year's production.

They discuss core architectural bets, transitioning from vendor-first setups to open-weights models, navigating LLM and agent gateways, and balancing accuracy, latency, and cost for over 5,000 internal users. The UK’s largest AI data center has had its 2027 launch date postponed, and is unlikely to come online until at least 2030, thanks to power supply issues
California state Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a subpoena to OpenAI, compelling it to submit information on the hacking incidents that its models have been involved in. While the investigators haven't determined yet whether the company has broken any rules or regulations, Bonta said that developers are responsible for the models they build and should be held legally accountable if they perpetrate cyberattacks.
Google suspends product vulnerability submissions to its Open Source Software Vulnerability Reward Program (OSS VRP) over an influx of invalid AI-driven reports.

Macworld If you’ve been using third-party apps on your Mac, you are probably familiar with a permission dialog box called “Full Disk Access.” It’s sort of a big catch-all permission that lets an application read or write almost any data to your Mac’s drive. It was originally conceived as a way for apps to be able to fully back up and restore your hard drive, but developers have since used it as a shortcut for auto-updating apps, managment apps, among others.

David Robinson used to write the safety reports that accompanied every major model release at OpenAI. This week, he resigned from his position and is now speaking out in an editorial in The Atlantic. It's understandable if you're feeling a bit cynical about everyone suddenly coming out of the woodwork to warn about how dangerous…
