Raspberry Pi has bumped the price of its 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 by $80, lifting the flagship single-board computer to $385. The adjustment means the top-tier model now costs more than three times its January 2025 launch price of $120. In the same round, the 16GB versions of the Compute Module 5 climb by $40, while the keyboard-integrated Raspberry Pi 500+ stays at its current price. [1][2]
Chief executive Eben Upton attributed the change to a shortage of alternative 16GB DRAM supplies alongside broader component constraints. Upgrading after purchase is also not an option, because Raspberry Pi firmware restricts each board to the memory capacity installed at manufacturing. [1]
Raspberry Pi maintains that the price increases are temporary and plans to reverse them when component expenses ease, but Upton noted that significant new supply is unlikely before 2028. Major memory manufacturers project an even longer timeline, with Micron warning of constraints into 2028 or later and SK Hynix projecting that supply shortages could persist through 2030. [1]
