Sony Bend Studio plans to unveil and potentially release its next video game in 2027, according to a report from MP1st. The Oregon-based developer behind Days Gone is reportedly much further along in production than anticipated, pursuing an advanced stage of development on a project that only began around June 2025. [1][2]
The upcoming game is described as an entirely new intellectual property built around a third-person perspective and featuring cooperative functionality. Specific gameplay mechanics and the full extent of its multiplayer integration remain unknown, but the project follows the cancellation earlier in 2025 of an unannounced open-world live-service game known as Project Mirror Pond. The targeted turnaround comes despite significant studio upheaval, including layoffs that cut roughly 30 percent, or nearly a third, of Bend Studio's workforce following that project termination. A debut in 2027 would mark the developer's first new release since Days Gone arrived in 2019, a game that eventually sold nearly 7.5 million copies by early 2022 despite a mixed critical reception.
