Jagex has officially scrapped RuneScape Reignited less than two weeks after unveiling it at RuneFest. First revealed earlier in the month, the planned offshoot was designed as an entry point for newcomers and returning players, offering fresh characters, dedicated servers, and a separate subscription. However, the studio announced in a blog post and video update that it is shelving the project entirely, admitting it missed the mark after receiving fierce pushback from its community. [1][2]
The project would have completely cordoned off new players into an isolated economy where they could only trade with each other, while also barring them from fighting bosses alongside existing accounts. Character porting between standard RuneScape and Reignited was strictly disallowed. Veteran players quickly warned that this design would splinter the community, starve the main game of incoming participants, and strand loyal users who would have had to abandon years of progress to join the new experience. [1][2]
Associate creative director Mod Ryan noted that Jagex was determined not to repeat past mistakes, recalling when ignored feedback during a historic combat overhaul cost the studio more than a decade of recovery. While the reversal leaves Jagex still searching for a way to ease newcomers past the game's heavily inflated economy, the developer is shifting focus back to its wider roadmap. Standard RuneScape will receive new bosses, raids, and an Adventure Guide update, alongside a 10-day free access period scheduled for December. [1][2]
