Santa Monica Studio has delayed the PlayStation 5 exclusive God of War Laufey by over three months. Originally scheduled to arrive on February 16, 2027, the action title will now launch on May 20, 2027. The developer announced the shift in a social media statement, explaining that it needs additional time to put finishing touches on the project and push it to its fullest potential. [1][2][3]
The spin-off marks the first entry in the franchise without Kratos as the main protagonist, though Santa Monica Studio says he will make occasional appearances and future games will connect to Laufey's storyline. Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Kratos' late wife, Faye, guiding players through an afterlife known as the Everywhen alongside gods from multiple mythologies while reintroducing the series' faster combat style. Despite early skepticism from critics regarding the departure from the series' traditional lead, the game reached the number two spot in pre-orders in most countries, trailing only GTA 6. The shift also distances the title from a crowded February 2027 release window featuring high-profile games such as Metro 2039, Persona 4 Revival, and the Fable reboot. [1][2]
