Microsoft is fully integrating Forza Motorsport developer Turn 10 Studios into Playground Games under the new banner Playground Games Redmond. Alongside the studio consolidation, Turn 10 co-founder and vice president Dan Greenawalt is retiring from Microsoft after 27 years with the company, according to an internal memo obtained by The Verge. [1][3]
Playground Games studio head Trevor Williams announced Greenawalt's retirement in the memo, praising his career from shipping Project Gotham Racing on the original Xbox in 2001 to spearheading the Forza series. While stepping down, Greenawalt is expected to advise the incoming studio leadership through the transition. [1][3]
The merger follows Microsoft's broader restructuring drive across Xbox earlier this year, which eliminated 3,200 jobs and closed four studios. Founded in 2001, Turn 10 developed eight mainline Forza Motorsport titles, finishing with the 2023 release. Moving forward, the Redmond team will collaborate with British colleagues on the Forza franchise and the fantasy role-playing game Fable. [1][3]
