Bungie has shared a detailed plan to bring back vaulted content to Destiny 2, targeting an early 2028 completion if schedules hold. Pre-production on the porting effort is underway and expected to run until January or February of 2027. Full production will then take roughly 12 months, according to Bungie head of product Josh Deane. [1][2]
The initial phase focuses on reinstating core campaigns, including Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind, along with their associated strikes, raids, raid lairs, and Menagerie with reprised rewards. Bungie is exploring stretch goals such as free-roam destinations, seasonal activities spanning Sundial through The Coil, raid weapon updates, and legacy PvP maps. However, technical or strategic hurdles mean certain elements, like the New Light onboarding experience and specific seasonal hubs, have no current path to return. [2]
Looking beyond Destiny 2, Bungie teased a broader initiative called Destiny 'Legacy,' stating the entire franchise experience needs to reach modern platforms. Outlets note this strongly signals the console-exclusive original Destiny could finally arrive on PC. Deane warned that the studio is early in incubating its future and will not share major announcements at this year's Game Awards, describing the effort as a major reset for Bungie, Destiny, and Marathon.
