Asus has launched the ROG XG Station 3, an external graphics card dock equipped with Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. First shown at Computex 2025, the successor to the Thunderbolt 3-based ROG XG Station 2 promises up to 80 Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth for compatible laptops and gaming handhelds. Asus has not yet announced pricing or availability details. [1][2]
The dock features an open-frame design that Asus says provides unobstructed cooling access. Unlike competing docks such as the Ugreen LinkStation Pro, the ROG XG Station 3 adds a GC-HPWR connector to accommodate Asus BTF graphics cards like the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 BTF Edition without visible cables. However, Asus does not include a power supply, requiring buyers to supply their own SFX or SFX-L unit. Thunderbolt 5 also limits PCIe tunneling to 64 Gbps, which Notebookcheck notes may still trail OCuLink alternatives in raw performance. [1]
