Artificial intelligence startup Fal has raised $1.3 billion in a Series F funding round led by Bessemer Venture Partners, lifting its valuation to $16 billion. According to Bloomberg, the new valuation doubles the $8 billion figure reached in April. Investors including Nvidia, Sound Ventures, and T. Rowe Price participated in the round. Alongside the Series F, the San Francisco-based company announced a previously closed Series E led by Sequoia, bringing combined funding across both rounds to $1.65 billion. [1][2]
Founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur and Gorkem Yurtseven, Fal provides a cloud infrastructure platform that hosts and runs image, video, and audio models for developers. The company plans to use the fresh capital to secure computing power and hire beyond its current team of 185 employees. The cash infusion follows rapid growth, with Bloomberg reporting that the startup exceeded $800 million in annualized revenue earlier this year. [1][2]
Demand for inference infrastructure has surged as developers deploy open-source models, fueling rapid growth for rivals like Baseten, Fireworks AI, and Modal. However, people familiar with the sector's finances note that gross margins remain slim across the industry due to the steep costs of leasing and purchasing compute hardware. [2]
